Negredo set for Atleti move

Could Alvaro Negredo really be set to leave City
after just one season? The man the supporters
have dubbed 'The Beast' forged a formidable
partnership with Sergio Aguero in the first half of
last season before injury and a dip in form saw
him go without a goal for the final four months of
the campaign.
Today's Daily Mail, however, report Negredo has
emerged as the prime target for La Liga champions
Atletico Madrid following Diego Costa's departure.
Simon Jones writes: "Atletico Madrid are
maintaining an interest in Manchester City striker
Alvaro Negredo.
"The Spanish striker scored 23 goals for the
Premier League club following his £20m move
from Seville last summer. However, the 28-year-
old is reportedly unhappy in England after
struggling to settle in Manchester.
"Atletico could offer Negredo an escape route back
to Spain and have money to spend with Diego
Costa poised to sign for Chelsea. Diego Simeone
will be keen to fill the void left by Costa as they bid
to defend their La Liga title."
With pre-season training now less than a fortnight
away, thoughts are already turning to training
camps and tours and up in Scotland, there is
plenty of interest in the Blues' first game of the
summer.
The Evening Telegraph a large crowd is expected
when City visit Dundee on 13 July with Tom Duthie
writing: "Dundee are on course for a bumper crowd
when English champions Manchester City visit
Dens Park next month.
"Tickets for the home stands for the July 13
glamour friendly have been selling well. And the
Manchester giants have informed the Dark Blues
they expect a travelling support running into four
figures to head north for the game.
"City will be based in St Andrews for over a week
before the clash and England's World Cup failure
means stars like Joe Hart and James Milner will
be joining the training camp at some point.
"Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko and Spanish
midfielders David Silva and Jesus Navas (Jesus
never travelled but we'll overlook that!) are also
flying home early after their teams didn't make it
past the group stage."
Bet that 'beleaguered English squad' line was easy
to write for a Scotsman! Ticket details for Dundee
are here....
Finally, Nigeria News suggest two promising
African talents could be heading to the Etihad
Stadium over the summer as they write: "Nigeria
starlets Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidiebere Nwakali
will be part of Manchester City's pre-season
training in the United States of America next
month.
"Both Nigeria Under 20 stars have signed pre-
contracts with the English Premier League
champions and now have a chance to impress with
the main squad in the USA.
"A top source informed AfricanFootball.com:'"The
players are right now processing their visas and
will be excused from the Flying Eagles' training
camp in Abuja at the end of this month to join City
for the pre-season in the US.'
"Iheanacho will sign a professional contract with
City in October, when he has clocked 18, while
Nwakali will do same months later in December.
"Both players shone as Nigeria won a record fourth
FIFA U-17 World Cup in the UAE in November."
