Liverpool launchs 9.8m pounds for Origi

Liverpool have launched a £9.8m bid for Lille
youngster Divock Origi, according to reports.
THe 19-year-old has caught the eye with his
sensational World Cup substitute appearances
for Belgium.
The Reds have made their move on the basis of
his promising displays.
They have lodged a structured deal worth
£9.8m that would see Origi return to Lille on
loan next season, claims the Daily Mirror.
The Anfield side’s hierarchy are reportedly in
discussions with the youngster’s
representatives, who are said to be in England
to finalise personal terms.
Brendan Rodgers is thought to be happy to let
Origi’s raw talent develop further in Ligue 1 and
the Champions League next season. The Reds
would hope he arrives ahead of the 2015/16
season looking more like the finished artic

World Cup's top 3 highest paid coaches have been eliminated while the lowest paid man delights everyone

The group stage of the 2014 World Cup has
concluded and half of the 32 teams have gone
home — including those assembled by the
tournament's three highest paid managers.
Meanwhile, the team led by the tournament's
lowest paid manager is not only still in it, but he has
arguably become the tournament's breakout suprise.
After resigning from the England job in 2012, Fabio
Capello took up the Russia post and led it to the top
of its 2014 World Cup qualifying group — edging out
Portugal. At the start of this year, he was given a fat
new contract that won't run out until after Russia
hosts the 2018 World Cup. This year alone the five-
time Serie A winner (as a manager) and two-time
La Liga winner is making $11.2 million, which is
nearly double what his England successor, Roy
Hodgson, is making ($5.9 million).
Though Capello did manage to outdo Hodgson in
Brazil — last in the group with two draws and one
loss as opposed to last in the group with one loss
and two draws — it wasn't quite the return on
investment Russia likely expected. Especially in a
manageable group that also included Belgium,
Algeria and South Korea.
At least the third highest paid manager, Italy's
Cesare Prandelli, offered to resign immediately after
his side was eliminated . And he even got a win

All together, only half of the top 10 best paid
managers at this World Cup navigated their teams
through to the knockout stage. But pulling up the
rear of the list is Mexico's Miguel Herrera, who
celebrated his way into the hearts of fans
everywhere while leading a once hopeless El Tri
through an undefeated group stage for the bargain
price of $209,810.
Herrera's situation is a bit different though. He was
appointed as an emergency interim manager last
October when Mexico was on the verge of
completely missing out on qualification. Once that
horror was narrowly avoided, he signed on through
the end of the World Cup, so his salary isn't for the
full year. It seems likely that the Mexican federation
would be willing to give him anything he wants after
what he's done so far, but even if he doesn't get a
pay increase, he can always subsidize his income
with his ska lip syncing. Somehow.

Manchester City officially sign Fernando

The Premier League champion has acquired the
Brazilian midfielder from Porto for 15 million euros.
Manchester City has signed Porto midfielder
Fernando for a fee of 15 million euros, the Premier
League champion has confirmed.
Fernando had been targeted by City for his midfield
anchorman qualities and will compete with the likes
of Fernandinho and Yaya Toure for a starting berth.
And he has expressed his delight at finally
completing his long-
reported move to Etihad
Stadium, saying: “I am so happy to finally be joining
Manchester City. I know there was talk of me
possibly signing last January so I am delighted that
the deal has now been done and that I am a City
player.
“I’m looking forward to meeting my new teammates
and helping City to defend the title. It is a very
exciting time to be part of this football club and I
cannot wait to play in the Premier League. City fans
can be assured I will give my all every time I play
and I’m looking forward to many happy years in
Manchester. I have enjoyed my stay with Porto and
I thank the club and the fans for their support during
my time in Portugal. Now I am ready for a new
chapter in my career.”

Which games will Suarez miss during his suspension

The Liverpool striker was handed a nine-game
international ban and a four-month suspension from
"any football-related activity" by FIFA following his
bite on Giorgio Chiellini.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez will miss the first half
of his side's Champions League group-stage
campaign as well as key domestic fixtures against
Manchester City and Everton after FIFA handed him
a four-month suspension from "any football related
activity" for biting Italy 's Giorgio Chiellini.
Suarez will miss the rest of the Uruguay's World
Cup campaign, with the team due to face fellow
South American side Colombia in the last 16, as well
as next summer's Copa America and a significant
portion of the upcoming Premier League season.

Suarez could miss up to 14 fixtures, depending on
Liverpool's progress in the Capital One Cup,
including back-to-back away games against
reigning champion Manchester City and Tottenham
and the first Merseyside derby of the season at
Anfield on September 27.
The 27-year-old's form last season was the
primary reason behind Liverpool's qualification for
the Champions League. The Reds are due to make
an appearance in the competition for the first time
since 2009 - but Suarez will play no part in his
side's first three games in Europe.
Suarez was suspended for 10 games after biting
Branislav Ivanovic at the end of the 2012-13
season and also missed eight games when he was
banned having been found guilty of racially abusing
Manchester United's Patrice Evra in October 2011.
By the time Suarez returns from his latest ban, he
will have potentially missed 32 games for his club in
two-and-half seasons.
Suarez will be unable to appeal the ban, only the
fine handed down by the world governing body,
while his club has confirmed it will review FIFA's
report.
In a statement, chief executive Ian Ayre said:
"Liverpool Football Club will wait until we have seen
and had time to review the FIFA Disciplinary
Committee report before making any further

Shaqiri's hat-trick sends Swiss into the last 16

Honduras 0-3 Switzerland: Stunning Shaqiri hat trick seals last-16 spot

The Bayern Munich man answered a few critics with a brilliant treble in Manaus to hand Ottmar Hitzfeld's side the three points it needed to leapfrog Ecuador.

Jun 25, 2014 5:51:00 PM

Xherdan Shaqiri scored a hat trick as Switzerland sealed a place in the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup by beating Honduras 3-0 in Manaus.

He may not be a regular starter at Bayern Munich, but the young winger remains the focal point of a Swiss side that has established itself as an emerging force.

The 22-year-old rose to the occasion when it mattered on Wednesday, his tour de force securing a win that meant Switzerland progressed from Group E behind France, which drew 0-0 with Ecuador to ensure the South American nation crashed out.

With his side smarting from a 5-2 drubbing at the hands of France last Friday, Shaqiri settled any nerves when he scored a sixth-minute thunderbolt before sliding home a second before halftime.

He then capped his impressive display with a third in the 71st minute, setting up a mouth-watering clash with Argentina next Tuesday.

In stark contrast, Honduras suffered the ignominy of being eliminated without a single point to its name.

Negredo set for Atleti move

Could Alvaro Negredo really be set to leave City
after just one season? The man the supporters
have dubbed 'The Beast' forged a formidable
partnership with Sergio Aguero in the first half of
last season before injury and a dip in form saw
him go without a goal for the final four months of
the campaign.
Today's Daily Mail, however, report Negredo has
emerged as the prime target for La Liga champions
Atletico Madrid following Diego Costa's departure.
Simon Jones writes: "Atletico Madrid are
maintaining an interest in Manchester City striker
Alvaro Negredo.
"The Spanish striker scored 23 goals for the
Premier League club following his £20m move
from Seville last summer. However, the 28-year-
old is reportedly unhappy in England after
struggling to settle in Manchester.
"Atletico could offer Negredo an escape route back
to Spain and have money to spend with Diego
Costa poised to sign for Chelsea. Diego Simeone
will be keen to fill the void left by Costa as they bid
to defend their La Liga title."
With pre-season training now less than a fortnight
away, thoughts are already turning to training
camps and tours and up in Scotland, there is
plenty of interest in the Blues' first game of the
summer.
The Evening Telegraph a large crowd is expected
when City visit Dundee on 13 July with Tom Duthie
writing: "Dundee are on course for a bumper crowd
when English champions Manchester City visit
Dens Park next month.
"Tickets for the home stands for the July 13
glamour friendly have been selling well. And the
Manchester giants have informed the Dark Blues
they expect a travelling support running into four
figures to head north for the game.
"City will be based in St Andrews for over a week
before the clash and England's World Cup failure
means stars like Joe Hart and James Milner will
be joining the training camp at some point.
"Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko and Spanish
midfielders David Silva and Jesus Navas (Jesus
never travelled but we'll overlook that!) are also
flying home early after their teams didn't make it
past the group stage."
Bet that 'beleaguered English squad' line was easy
to write for a Scotsman! Ticket details for Dundee
are here....
Finally, Nigeria News suggest two promising
African talents could be heading to the Etihad
Stadium over the summer as they write: "Nigeria
starlets Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidiebere Nwakali
will be part of Manchester City's pre-season
training in the United States of America next
month.
"Both Nigeria Under 20 stars have signed pre-
contracts with the English Premier League
champions and now have a chance to impress with
the main squad in the USA.
"A top source informed AfricanFootball.com:'"The
players are right now processing their visas and
will be excused from the Flying Eagles' training
camp in Abuja at the end of this month to join City
for the pre-season in the US.'
"Iheanacho will sign a professional contract with
City in October, when he has clocked 18, while
Nwakali will do same months later in December.
"Both players shone as Nigeria won a record fourth
FIFA U-17 World Cup in the UAE in November."

Neymar sends Brazil into the last 16

         BRAZIL 4-1 CAMEROON

Neymar scored twice in a man-of-the-match
display as Brazil rediscovered their attacking flair to
overwhelm Cameroon and qualify for the World Cup
knockout stage.
The 22-year-old produced two brilliant first-half
strikes either side of a Joel Matip equaliser, with
Fred and Fernandinho assuring their side of a place
in the last 16 as winners of Group A.
Standing between the hosts and a place in the
quarter-finals are Chile, and Brazil can approach
that meeting in Belo Horizonte on Saturday with
renewed belief in their title chances.
Unconvincing performances against Croatia and
Mexico raised concerns about Brazil - and worries
remain over their defence - but with Neymar at their
disposal, anything is possible.
The Barcelona forward was back at the scene of his
spectacular goal against Japan in the opening game
of last year's Confederations Cup, which kick-
started Brazil's march to that title, and coach Luiz
Felipe Scolari will desperately hope this result can
have a similar impact.
Scolari named an identical line-up to the one that
beat Japan, meaning Hulk returned from injury to
replace Ramires in the same 4-3-3 formation that
edged them past Croatia.
Any frustration from Tuesday's 0-0 draw with
Mexico appeared to have dissipated as droves of
yellow-and-green-clad fans created a sensational
atmosphere inside Brasilia's magnificent Estadio
Nacional, and Brazil responded by pouring forward
in search of an early goal.
Neymar scores the 100th goal
of Brazil 2014
They almost had it when a Paulinho shot was
blocked after Neymar played in Hulk to cross, but
such attacking ambition left them exposed in
defence and Cameroon looked to capitalise.
A sharp break ended with Marcelo blocking a
goalbound Vincent Aboubakar strike before David
Luiz was forced to frantically clear Eric Choupo
Moting's low centre inside the six yard box.
Brazil did not, however, seem in the mood to curb
their natural instincts and after Neymar had been
riled by Allan Nyom's off-the-ball shove, the 22-
year-old made his mark.
Luiz Gustavo won possession on the left and
crossed for Neymar to open his body and beat
Charles Itandje with a delightful first-time, side-
footed finished into the bottom corner.
It was a fitting way to register the 100th goal of this
World Cup - and the same man almost made it two
with a ferocious volley that Itandje did well to punch
away.
The stadium was rocking but would soon fall silent
as Cameroon exposed the hosts' shaky defence,
Nyom beating Dani Alves and squaring for Matip to
escape Luiz and finish from close range.
Scolari gesticulated wildly to his players and they
responded in the only way they know, Marcelo
finding Neymar to race upfield and wrong-foot
Itandje for his 35th goal in 52 internationals.
Neymar was now showboating and he combined
with Oscar and Paulinho to set up Hulk for what
would have been a sensational team effort, only for
Hulk to miscue.
Scolari replaced Paulinho with Fernandinho at half-
time - a move many supporters and pundits have
been calling for in recent days - and it had an
immediate impact.
The Manchester City midfielder sent Hulk clear,
Henri Bedimo arriving with a perfectly timed
challenge, and then found Luiz to cross for Fred to
extend Brazil's lead.
Replays suggested he was offside but referee
Jonas Eriksson stood firm and Fred celebrated a
moment that should help his confidence after poor
showings against Croatia and Mexico.
Fernandinho slotted home a superb fourth that his
contribution deserved and Brazil's satisfaction was
increased by the fact that all of their players who
were one booking away from a suspension -
Neymar, Thiago Silva, Luiz Gustavo and Ramires -
finished without punishment.

Who needs what so as to movin the next round of16

The exciting and at times unpredictable start to the World Cup means there is much to be decided in the final round of group fixtures. Here is our guide on who needs to do what to progress into the last 16 in Brazil. Group A Country W D L GD Pts Brazil 1 1 0 2 4 Mexico 1 1 0 1 4 Croatia 1 0 1 2 3 Cameroon 0 0 2 -5 0 Cameroon v Brazil; Croatia v Mexico (23 June, 21:00 BST) Only Cameroon can definitely not qualify , and the slight possibility remains that hosts Brazil might not make the knockout stages. Felipe Scolari's side will go through if they win or draw their match against the already-eliminated Africans in Brasilia. Brazil will be hoping that striker Fred can score his first goal of the tournament after disappointing in the games against Croatia and Mexico But if Croatia were to beat Mexico, and if Brazil lost to Cameroon by a margin big enough to make their goal difference worse than Mexico's, the five-time world champions drop into third place. Brazil could lose and still qualify if Mexico beat Croatia, a result that would see the Central American side top the group with the host nation second. This group's winners and runners-up will face either the Netherlands or Chile in the last 16. Group B Country W D L GD Pts Netherlands 2 0 0 5 6 Chile 2 0 0 4 6 Australia 0 0 2 -3 0 Spain 0 0 2 -6 0 Australia v Spain; Netherlands v Chile (23 June, 17:00 BST) Chile and the Netherlands have already qualified courtesy of their impressive wins over World Cup holders Spain and more routine victories against Australia. Their meeting in Sao Paulo will decide who wins the group. The Dutch side's superior goal difference means they only need a draw to finish the group in first place, which would see them play the second- placed side from Group A. Group C Country W D L GD Pts Colombia 2 0 0 4 6 Ivory Coast 1 0 1 0 3 Japan 0 1 1 -1 1 Greece 0 1 1 -3 1 Greece v Ivory Coast; Japan v Colombia (24 June, 21:00 BST) Colombia have ensured their place in the last 16 with a game to spare courtesy of wins over Greece and Ivory Coast Colombia are through to the last 16 for the first time in 24 years, where they will face either Costa Rica, Italy or Uruguay. They will win the group with a victory or draw from their meeting with Japan. Ivory Coast will join the South Americans in the next stage if they beat Greece, although a draw would allow Japan to claim second place if they beat Colombia. Japan must win their match against Colombia to give them any hope of qualifying, while Greece must get three points and hope Japan only earn a point or worse. If Greece and Japan win, they will finish level on four points and the final position will be decided on goal difference, which currently favours Japan. Group D Country W D L GD Pts Costa Rica 2 0 0 3 6 Italy 1 0 1 0 3 Uruguay 1 0 1 -1 3 England 0 0 2 -2 0 Costa Rica v England; Italy v Uruguay (24 June, 17:00 BST) England's two defeats mean they will proceed no further. Their final opponents, Costa Rica, will win the group with a point or better from the match in Belo Horizonte. England fans have seen the country knocked out of a World Cup in the first group stage of the tournament for the first time since 1958 Italy need a point to qualify, while Uruguay must beat Cesare Prandelli's side to progress. If Costa Rica lose to England, then a win in the other match would see the victors win the group if their goal difference or goals scored is better than Costa Rica's. Should Costa Rica end with six points and are level on goal difference or goals scored with either of the other two sides, their better head-to-head with Uruguay and Italy - whom they beat 3-1 and 1-0 respectively - would see the Central Americans top the group. Group E Country W D L GD Pts France 2 0 0 2 6 Ecuador 1 0 1 0 3 Switzerland 1 0 1 -2 3 Honduras 0 0 2 -4 0 Ecuador v France; Honduras v Switzerland (25 June, 21:00 BST) France need just a point to win the group, and only a big defeat by Ecuador and a large winning margin for Switzerland over Honduras would stop the French from qualifying. Ecuador must beat France and maintain their goal difference over Switzerland to make the last 16 for the first time in their history. If the Swiss gain a point from their match with Honduras, and France beat Ecuador, then Switzerland will finish in second place. Honduras can qualify but must beat Switzerland and hope France defeat Ecuador by a large enough margin for Honduras' goal difference to improve beyond that of Switzerland and Ecuador. Group F Country W D L GD Pts Argentina 2 0 0 2 6 Nigeria 1 1 0 1 4 Iran 0 1 1 -1 1 Bosnia-Herc 0 0 2 -2 0 Bosnia-Hercegovina v Iran; Nigeria v Argentina (25 June, 17:00 BST) Argentina are already through, and a draw in their match with Nigeria will see them win the group and the Super Eagles qualify in second place. If the African side win, they will top the group. Iran must beat Bosnia-Hercegovina, and rely on an Argentina victory that is big enough for Iran's goal difference or goals scored tally to better Nigeria's. Bosnia cannot qualify for the next round. The 25-year-old Germany international says while he is unlikely to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, he could be tempted to join Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford in the future
Mats Hummels has revealed that he would entertain the possibility of a move to Manchester United "some day", but does not expect to move to Old Trafford this summer.

Goal understands that the Borussia Dortmund centre-back is one of Louis van Gaal's top targets, with the incoming United coach keen for the 25-year-old Germany international to become the leader of his defence following the departures of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

And Hummels - who scored and was injured during Germany's 4-0 victory over Portugal in their opening World Cup game - says that although a move is unlikely this summer, he is open to a future switch to the Premier League side.

"I never think about that or talk about it because it is something that isn’t important for me right now," The Daily Telegraph reports Hummels as saying. "Maybe it will be some day, but I don’t expect it to be like that this summer."

Following their emphatic victory over Portugal, Hummels believes that Germany have a good chance of going all the way at the World Cup but must keep their concentration levels up in the heat of Brazil.

"If we are concentrated and focused, both defensively and offensively, then we are a good team and that is the way we play," Hummels added.

"If we can do that in every game, we are going to have a good chance to be very successful.

"The thing is to work as a team. If we work defensively as we should, then our attacking play is so good that we have a chance to beat every team.

"In the shade, it is almost perfect weather for football, but in the sun, it is a bit too hot.''
